New ITR Due Dates & PF Rules: Finance Bill 2026 Ease of Living Analysis

Ease of Living: 2026 Tax Updates

Finance Bill 2026 brings 15 key provisions to make life simpler. We’ve broken them down with real-world examples so you know exactly how they affect you.

📅 Deadlines & Compliance Relief

Sec 29(1)(e)

Employee PF Contribution

Employers now have until the ITR filing due date to deposit employee PF contributions and still claim the deduction.

Example:

ABC Corp missed the monthly PF deadline of June 15th. They paid it on August 20th (before their ITR deadline).
Verdict: Previously disallowed, now fully allowed as a deduction.

Sec 263(1)

New ITR Deadline (Non-Audit)

The due date for non-audit business cases and partners of such firms has been extended.

  • Old Date: 31st July
  • New Date: 31st August
Example:

Raj, a freelance graphic designer (no audit required), usually rushes to file by July 31st. He now has until August 31st to file without penalty.

Sec 263(5)

Revised Return Window

Mistake in your return? The window to file a Revised Return is extended from 9 months to 12 months.

Example:

Sara forgot to declare interest income in her ITR. She discovers this 11 months later.
Verdict: She can still file a revised return (previously, the window would have closed at 9 months).

🛡️ Exemptions & Buying Property

Sec 397(1)(c)

Property Purchase from NRI

Buying a home from a Non-Resident? You no longer need a Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN).

Example:

Vikram is buying a flat from his NRI uncle. Instead of applying for a TAN, he simply quotes the Seller’s PAN in the challan. Compliance time reduced from weeks to minutes.

Schedule III

Motor Accident Interest

Interest received on compensation under the Motor Vehicles Act is now Fully Exempt. No TDS applies.

Example:

Priya receives ₹10 Lakh compensation + ₹2 Lakh interest for an accident claim.
Verdict: The entire ₹2 Lakh interest is tax-free. (Previously, it was taxable).

Schedule III

Disability Pension

Tax exemption on disability pension is now explicitly extended to Paramilitary personnel.

Example:

Officer Singh (BSF) was invalided out due to a service injury. His pension (both service and disability elements) is now 100% tax-free.

💻 Digital & Operational Ease

Sec 395

Electronic Lower TDS

No more physical visits to the tax officer. You can apply for and receive a Lower TDS Certificate online.

Example:

Tech Solutions Ltd. expects a loss and wants lower TDS deduction. They apply via the portal and receive the certificate digitally, without visiting the Income Tax office.

Sec 393(6)

Single Declaration

Investors can now submit a single declaration to the Depository instead of separate forms to every company.

Example:

Amit holds shares in 50 companies. Instead of sending 50 Form 15G/H forms, he sends one to his Depository (NSDL/CDSL). The tax benefit applies to all his dividends automatically.

Sec 402(47)

Manpower Supply TDS

Confusion cleared: Supply of manpower is treated as “Work”.

  • TDS Rate: 1% (Individuals) / 2% (Others)
Example:

Global Staffing Agency supplies security guards to a mall. The mall will now deduct TDS at 2% under “Contract”, clarifying years of ambiguity.

🔄 Updated Returns (Game Changer)

FeatureOld RuleNew Rule (2026)
Reducing LossNot AllowedAllowed (You can file an updated return to reduce carry-forward loss)
After Tax NoticeBarredAllowed (Even after Sec 148 notice, subject to 35-80% tax)
